Raymond Mill Equipment: Application Cases in the Building Materials Industry

Raymond mill equipment, known for its reliability and cost-effectiveness in mid-range fineness grinding, has found enduring and diverse applications within the building materials industry. Its ability to process non-flammable, non-explosive minerals with Mohs hardness below 7 makes it a versatile tool.

Case Analysis 1: Gypsum Powder Production for Wallboard

Application: Grinding natural gypsum rock or flue gas desulfurization (FGD) gypsum to a fine powder (typically 80-120 mesh) for use as the core material in gypsum wallboard (drywall).
Process & Role: Crushed gypsum is fed into the Raymond mill. The integrated drying capability (using hot air from a furnace) is crucial, as it calcines the gypsum dihydrate (CaSO₄·2H₂O) partially into hemihydrate or anhydrite during the grinding process—a step essential for the setting properties of the final wallboard.

The Raymond mill provides a consistent, thermally treated powder that is then mixed with water, foam, and additives to form the slurry for board production. Its steady operation and easy adjustment of fineness ensure the board's required strength and density.
