Coal Preparation Equipment: Fan Selection & Energy Saving Retrofit

The selection and operation of the primary air (PA) fan and the exhaust fan (or mill fan) in a coal preparation system are critical for performance and energy consumption. These fans are among the largest auxiliary power consumers in a plant, making their optimization a key energy-saving target.

Fan Selection Guidelines:
Selection is based on the system's aerodynamic requirements.

Determine Duty Point: Calculate the required Volumetric Flow Rate (m³/h) and Total Pressure (Pa) the fan must overcome.

Flow Rate: Based on the required air-to-coal ratio for transport and drying, and the mill's maximum coal throughput. It must account for air density at the fan inlet (affected by temperature and altitude).
